Abu Sa’id Abdur-Rahman ibn Mahdi said, “Whoever desires to write a book should begin it with this hadith (Hadith 1 from Bustan al-’Arifin)”
Consistent with the great scholars of the past, including the likes of Imam Bukhari and Imam Nawawi, we begin this webpage (be it virtual) with the following hadith. We hope it will help us to renew and make clear to ourselves the purpose for our studies:
“Indeed, actions only go by intentions. Everyone gets what they intend. Anyone, therefore, who emigrates for Allah and His Messenger, then his emigration is indeed for Allah and His Messenger. But anyone who emigrates to gain something of this world or to marry a woman, his emigration is for that which he emigrated.”
Ahmad ibn Hanbal, may Allah be well pleased with him, stated (about this hadith), “It contains a third of knowledge.”
